Strengthening Families Program 10-14

The Strengthening Families Program (SFP) is a grant funded program housed within the Office on Youth. The program is held over seven (7) weeks and involves families with youth ages 10-14. This program takes a whole family approach. Each session begins with a meal, followed by separate parent and youth groups, and ends with a family group. Personal disclosure is not required and an emphasis is placed on new skills offering more options rather than criticizing old skills or past behavior.

Strengthening Families helps youth learn to manage emotions, set goals, avoid peer pressure, make better decisions, and create better relationships. The program helps families recognize their strengths and improves family value. For more information about the program and its nationally recognized successes please visit the Iowa State University Extension Officesite.

Each session begins with dinner for the entire family. Gas station gift cards are provided weekly to each family in attendance to assist with transportation expenses and child care is provided for younger family members.

Our next session of the Strengthening Families Program will be held at Lake of the Woods Church on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. beginning Tuesday, February 4th. REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!
