Orange County Library Board            of Trustees

Purpose: The Library Board of Trustees is a governing Board. The Library Board of Trustees is responsible for the governance of the library including the supervision of the Library Director, setting of library policies and fees, formulation of the library budget and oversight in financial matters. The Library Board of Trustees “shall have the right to accept donations and bequests of money or personal property or real estate for the establishment and maintenance of such free public library systems or endowments for same” (Code of Virginia $42.1-35)

Number of Members: 10, 2 from each supervisory district. Members are appointed by the Supervisor from their district.

Length of Terms: 4 years on staggered terms expiring June 30th. Board members are eligible for reappointment. Officers are elected at the July meeting each year.

Date/Time/Location of Meetings: Third Thursdays at 5:15 pm at the Main Library meeting room. Some special meetings are called, generally not more than 2 per year. There are also subcommittees for budget, election of officers, policies, etc. which are called as needed and meet on an ad hoc basis.
