  1. OCPR Fall Acoustic Guitar Lessons - Youth Class

    September 17, 5:30 PM - 6:15 PM @ Sedwick Building Upstairs Conference Room

    OCPR is offering youth acoustic guitar lessons! Classes will be held in the Sedwick Building upstairs conference room (this is the same building as the OCPR office and the Orange Public Library) on Tuesdays, Sept. 17-Nov.5, 2019. Classes will be held from 5:30-6:15pm. The registration fee is $80. Students should provide their own guitar, but other materials will be provided. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. Registrations received after the 9/13/19 deadline will be charged a $10 late fee. An adult class is also available.

Classes will be held in the Sedwick Building upstairs conference room (this is the same building as the OCPR office and the Orange Public Library) on Tuesdays, Sept. 17-Nov. 5, 2019.   3. OCPR Tai Chi Fundamentals Late Summer Session

    September 17, 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM @ Dogwood Village Senior Living Wellness Room

    OCPR’s next Tai Chi Fundamentals Session begins August 13, 2019 and will continue for 8 weeks of classes, ending on October 8, 2019 (with no class on September 10). Have fun learning this graceful, slow moving form of exercise that has ancient roots tracing back into the depths of Chinese culture and philosophy of centuries past. Classes are held at Dogwood Village in the Senior Living Building Wellness Room on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Signups for our ongoing Tai Chi programs are accepted at any time during a program. The registration fee for this program is $95. Open to adults. You can sign up anytime, but you must register before attending.

  4. LGPS Guided Orca Landscape Painting Class

    September 19, 3:45 PM - 5:45 PM @ Locust Grove Primary School

    We are pleased to offer a new painting program at Locust Grove Primary School. Participants will be guided through the process of painting a landscape featuring orca whales (with their own creative touches of course). The instructor is Jo Gibson Rancel of Artists in Bloom, who has been instructing art for years, including classes with Spotsylvania County Parks & Recreation. The class will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2019 from 3:45-5:45pm. This class is intended as an after-school program for Locust Grove Primary School students. Students from other schools may attend, but transportation is not provided. The registration deadline is Monday, September 9, 2019, registrations received after this date will be charged a $5 late fee.   5. OCPR 2019 Liberty Ride

    September 21, 8:30 AM - 1:00 PM @ James Madison's Montpelier

    The Liberty Ride is a fundraiser for the Orange County Parks & Recreation Foundation, a 501(c)3 Organization whose mission is to help support the future of Orange County Parks & Recreation. The ride is organized by Orange County Parks & Recreation and Oakland Heights Farm. It is graciously hosted by James Madison’s Montpelier. Generous support for this ride is provided by the Virginia Horse Council and Virginia Horse Industry Board. Riders must bring their own horse. The length of the ride is between 7 and 10 miles round-trip (route may change based on weather and trail conditions), and the terrain is pasture land, wooded trails, gravel roads, and some paved roads. Pre-registration is highly encouraged. Registrations received after 9/6/19 will have a $10 late registration fee added and cannot be guaranteed lunch.

    September 24, 3:15 PM - 4:15 PM @ Gordon-Barbour Elementary School

    OCPR is offering after school basketball clinics at GBES for kids in grades K-5 (two age groups: K-2 and 3-5). These clinics will help teach the fundamentals of the game, keep kids active, and allow for some pre-season practice. Clinics will be held after school once-a-week on either Tuesdays (K-2) or Thursdays (3-5) September 24 through October 17 (3:15-4:15pm each class), for a total of 4 classes. Pre-registration is required. Register by 9/16/19. The registration fee is $40. Registrations received after the deadline will be charged a $5 late fee. Space is limited, and the program may close before the deadline if full.

  11. OCPR Paint Your Favorite Animal Class at OES

    September 26, 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM @ Orange Elementary School

    Provide us with a picture of your pet or other favorite animal, and we will have a pre-sketched canvas ready for your child to paint and take home! This one-day afterschool program will be held on Thursday, Sept. 26 from 3:30-5pm. Space is limited, and the registration fee is $30. You must pre-register and provide us with the photo of your pet/other animal in advance. The deadline to register is 9/13/19, but spots may fill quicker. Registrations received after the deadline will be charged a $5 late fee. Program is open to all kids grades K-5. It is designed as an OES afterschool program, OES students remain onsite to participate after school dismisses. Students from other schools may attend, but transportation to and from OES is not provided.
