Press Release - Orange County Seeks Nominations for Garvis Huff Awards

The Orange County Office on Youth is accepting nominations for the Garvis Huff Outstanding Youth and Youth Advocate Awards.

Eligible nominees include students from grades 6-8 and from grades 9-12, which have demonstrated community involvement that goes beyond academic and/or athletic achievements and contribute to their community on a daily basis. All qualified nominees will receive certificates and will be recognized at the awards ceremony on March 21, 2017, in the Orange County High School auditorium. The nominees must be a resident and/or student at the time of their community involvement.

 

The Orange County Office on Youth is also accepting nominations for Outstanding Youth Advocate, which recognizes an individual who has demonstrated a commitment to improving the lives of the youth in Orange County. This person symbolizes the Youth Commission’s commitment to youth, and the encouragement of citizen involvement with the youth at a local level. This individual must be 19 years or older and reside and/or work in Orange County.

 

Applications for nominations can be obtained at the Office on Youth (Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) or by visiting the Office on Youth webpage at www.orangecountyva.gov. They may also have them faxed, mailed, or e-mailed by calling (540) 672-5484 or contacting avines@orangecountyva.gov.

 

All nominations must be returned to the Office on Youth or postmarked by February 24, 2017.
