Press Release - Office on Youth to Offer Class for Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

The Orange County Office on Youth is pleased to be offering a Grandparents Raising Grandchildren class beginning Wednesday, April 12, 2017. The Office on Youth has partnered with Jane Probst, MSW, LCWS, to offer a parenting program designed to provide support specifically to those grandparents who are raising their grandchildren of any age.  The four-part class is offered free of charge to grandparents in the community.

Class topics include, but are not limited to: self-regulation and co-regulation; navigating school systems, social media, and dating/sexuality; role confusion; transitions; and planning for a child’s future. This class will provide grandparents with the support of other grandparents who are experiencing the same rewards and challenges in raising their grandchildren.

The Office on Youth is providing dinner for the entire family as well as childcare for children while grandparents attend the class.  Grandparents Raising Grandchildren will be held at the Sedwick Building, located at 146 Madison Road, Orange, Virginia, on Wednesday evenings beginning at 5:30 p.m. on April 12 and 26 and May 10 and 24.

Registration is now open and free to those interested; however, space is limited to ten (10) households. For additional information or to register, please contact Ashley Jacobs, Program Coordinator, at (540) 672-5484 or ajacobs@orangecountyva.gov.
