Press Release - Emergency Communications Center Encourages Residents to Subscribe to CodeRED

ORANGE COUNTY EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS CENTER ENCOURAGES RESIDENTS TO SUBSCRIBE TO CodeRED FOR MASS NOTIFICATIONS

Orange County, VA - The Orange County Emergency Communications Center has an emergency and mass notification system that allows the County to send urgent messages to those who are interested and have signed up. CodeRED is used to alert subscribers of natural disasters, including severe storms, tornadoes, and floods, or man-made disasters, such as chemical spills, bio-hazards, and Amber Alerts.

Orange County citizens can add multiple contact modes or select the best contact method for themselves at the time of sign-up. The system allows subscribers to select from the following methods of delivery: a voice call to home and/or cell phone, email, text message, or through TDD/TTY devices.

As a new notification feature, the County of Orange can also send alerts to subscribers of the CodeRED Mobile Alert app. The Mobile Alert app provides users geo-based public safety alerts that impact them at their current location. The app provides an additional method for the County to communicate messages to not only local residents, but also to those traveling through the area.
