Press Release - Orange County Public Library to Offer Pushing the Limits Book and Video Discussion

The Orange County Public Library is resuming its Pushing the Limits book and video discussion series. Pushing the Limits is a program series sponsored by a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and designed to bring everyday STEM learning to rural areas. Each program lasts about one (1) hour and includes discussion of a video provided by NSF as well as the book.  Renee Filep, a science instructor with over 20 years of experience, will be facilitating the discussions.

The first program is focused on how “mankind” is pushing the limits of transformation and will include the book The Martian by Andy Weir. The mankind program will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at 7:00 p.m., located at the Main Library (146A Madison Road, Orange, Virginia). Reading the book is helpful, but not required.  Copies of the book and movie are available at the Orange County Public Library.

The second program in this series will focus on the theme of “tradition” and will feature the book Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel.  This book has been a favorite of book clubs and features a traveling music and theater troupe who move through a post-pandemic world, much changed from ours.  The tradition program will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at 7:00 p.m., located at the Main Library (146A Madison Road, Orange, Virginia). Stop by and pick up a copy of the book today.

Orange County Public Library will continue to push the limits of learning with more programs in this series in Spring 2018.  Our library system was one (1) of 90 in the entire U.S. to be given this grant opportunity.
