Orange County Sheriff's Office Seeks Participants for the Upcoming Youth Academy

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is seeking participants for the upcoming Youth Academy. The program is scheduled for Monday, July 9, 2018 through Friday, July 13, 2018.

The Youth Academy is a program developed to enhance the relationship between the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the youth of our community. The Youth Academy is designed to educate, put students into leadership roles, overcome a confidence course, and instill the importance of teamwork.  It is also designed to dispel misconceptions of law enforcement and to give guidance to those interested in a career in the criminal justice field.

The participants will be given an overview of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, gang awareness, narcotics, alcohol impairment, distracted driving, investigations and crime scene processing, CPR, and gun safety.

Participants will also be given the opportunity to take a tour of Central Virginia Regional Jail, receive training in CPR, complete a driving course while wearing Fatal Vision goggles, and experience a team building obstacle course and rappelling.

The Youth Academy is open to Orange County youth ages 14 to 18. To be considered for the program, please submit a half-page handwritten letter explaining why the applicant should be selected. Applications may be submitted to Sgt. Bryan Seal at the Orange County High School, or Capt. Jason Smith or Sarah Altman at the Sheriff’s Office, no later than noon on Friday, June 22, 2018. Only twenty (20) applicants will be selected. Selected applicants will receive a confirmation letter from Capt. Jason Smith or Sarah Altman withfurtherinformation.
