Orange County Sheriff's Office & Virginia State Police Offer Free VIN Etching Event

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office’s TRIAD Program and the Virginia State Police’s HEAT Program are partnering to offer a free VIN etching event on Saturday, September 21, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event will be held at the Barboursville Volunteer Fire Department, located at 5251 Spotswood Trail, Barboursville, Virginia.

Adding VIN etching to your auto glass creates another barrier against potential auto theft, making it more complicated for a thief. If a thief swaps out the VIN on a car that has been etched, they must also swap out all the etched glass costing them time and money.

The VIN etching process uses a chemical to permanently mark glass. It takes 10 minutes to complete and does not affect the appearance of the vehicle. HEAT etched more than 700 vehicles in 2015 at more than 25 locations throughout Virginia.

For additional information on the HEAT Program or VIN etching, visit www.heatreward.com. For more information about this event, please contact TRIAD Coordinator, Deputy Ron Kesner, at rkesner@orangecountyva.gov or (540) 920-7870.
