Press Release - Orange County Receives Life-Saving Emergency Data Via the RapidSOS Clearinghouse

The Orange County Emergency Communications Center (ECC) is now able to receive accurate device location data for 9-1-1 calls from iPhones with iOS 12 and Android phones version 4.0 , as well as additional emergency data from apps such as: Uber, wearables, connected homes, and connected cars, via the RapidSOS Clearinghouse.
The Orange County ECC strives to continuously and consciously implement 9-1-1 technology tools that will improve emergency response for citizens. The nation’s 50-year-old legacy 911 infrastructure was designed for landlines and provides limited data to first responders other than a voice-only connection. Through the RapidSOS Clearinghouse, the ECC is able to access life-saving emergency data from supplemental sources, at no cost, including accurate location from iPhones with iOS 12 and Android phones version 4.0 .

RapidSOS Portal is available, with no commitment, to every authorized ECC in the nation. RapidSOS Portal provides invaluable information to call-takers and dispatchers as they work to quickly send callers appropriate assistance. Agencies with RapidSOS Portal are eligible to receive access to data sources available through the RapidSOS Clearinghouse, including Apple, Google, MedicAlert, Uber, and more.

“I am proud to have our agency at the forefront of utilizing the technological advances in our field that improve our ability to serve the citizens and visitors of Orange County,” stated Domonique Curry, Emergency Communications Center Director.

“The Orange County Emergency Communications Center is leading the way in 9-1-1 technology to improve emergency response,” said RapidSOS CEO, Michael Martin. “We are thrilled to provide Orange County dispatchers with the information they need to get citizens help quickly in an emergency, saving lives and property.”
