Animal Shelter 2011 Year In Review
The Orange County Animal Shelter is responsible for providing humane care to unwanted, lost or abandoned animals. Our mission:
- Protect the animals entrusted to our care
- Find permanent homes for lost or abandoned pets
- Promote responsible pet ownership
- Improve quality of life in Orange County
The Orange County Humane Society assists by providing volunteers for adoption events and by holding fundraisers to support the Shelter’s Emergency Veterinary Fund, spay/neuter program, microchip program and related endeavors to benefit the animals.
Animal Control--which collects stray, sick or aggressive animals and conducts animal welfare investigations--is a separate function of the Sheriff’s Office.
The Orange County Humane Society is sponsoring a low-cost spay/neuter transport once a month. Cats and dogs welcome! Vaccinations and testing services are also available. To get more information about this exciting opportunity or to schedule an appointment, please call their voicemail at 540-672-0069 and leave a message; a volunteer will get back to you shortly! Drop-off and pick-up of animals for the shuttle will be at the Orange County Fairgrounds. Residents of Orange and surrounding counties welcome.
Orange County licenses may be purchased for year 2013.
The Orange County Animal Shelter sponsors low-cost vaccination clinics every spring and fall. Rabies and distemper shots are available for both cats and dogs. These clinics are open to everyone, regardless of county of residence. Please ensure that your dogs are safely secured on leash and your cats either harnessed or in an appropriate carrier.
