Animal Shelter

NEWS ALERT: The Orange County Animal Shelter will be CLOSED Saturday July 4th in observance of the Independence Day holiday. We would like to offer a reminder that the loud noise of fireworks often causes otherwise calm pets to become frightened and run away from home; please make sure your dog is secured. We hope you and your family have a safe and happy weekend!

Due to budgetary constraints, the discount spay/neuter coupon program has been discontinued. Please contact the Orange County Humane Society at (540)672-0069 for information on their monthly low-cost public transport to the Harrisonburg Spay/Neuter Clinic.

The Orange County Animal Shelter will be on restricted intake for dogs two weeks beginning Saturday 27 June until Tuesday 14 July while the kennel floors are re-surfaced as mandated by state law. We will be unable to accept owned-surrenders under normal circumstances during this time. If you have found a stray dog, please call the Shelter at 540-672-1124 to make a report; if you are able to provide temporary housing for the animal, please help us out! If you need to speak with Animal Control regarding a neglect or abuse case, call 540-672-9725 or contact the Shelter and we will do our best to assist. Thank you so much for your patience. Come visit us in July and see the dogs' new digs!

The Orange County Animal Shelter provides animal control services and shelters unwanted, lost or abandoned animals.

Animal control, which collects stray, sick or aggressive animals, is a function of the Sheriff's Office. The Orange County Humane Society assists animal control by helping find placement for homeless pets.

The Orange County Humane Society is sponsoring a low-cost spay/neuter transport once a month.  Cats and dogs welcome!  Vaccinations and testing services are also available.  To get more information about this exciting opportunity or to schedule an appointment, please call their voicemail at 540-672-0069 and leave a message; a volunteer will get back to you shortly!  Drop-off and pick-up of animals for the shuttle will be at the Orange County Fairgrounds.  Residents of Orange and surrounding counties welcome.

The Orange County Animal Shelter sponsors low-cost vaccination clinics every spring and fall.  Rabies and distemper shots are available for both cats and dogs.  These clinics are open to everyone, regardless of county of residence.  Please ensure that your dogs are safely secured on leash and your cats either harnessed or in an appropriate carrier.

The dates for 2009 are as follows:

The Orange County Animal Shetler will be sponsoring our semi-annual Rabies and Distemper Vaccination Clinic -Sunday, April 19, 2009 1 p.m. -3 pm.
