Rescue Waggin

Orange County Animal Shelter is sending homeless dogs for ride of their lives

Every year, our shelter receives more dogs and cats than we can possibly find homes for in our community.

That’s why we’re constantly looking for new spay/neuter strategies to reduce the number of pets coming in, while at the same time developing innovative programs that help us get more pets adopted out.

Our goal is to find every adoptable pet a loving home, so we have partnered with the PetSmart Charities® Rescue Waggin’® program to increase the number of adoptable dogs and puppies that find new families.

The Rescue Waggin’ program is a unique shelter transport program that moves adoptable dogs from shelters with high areas of pet overpopulation to shelters where adoptable dogs are more in demand. By networking with animal shelters across the nation, we can transport pets to other shelters where they is more adoption space and more opportunities for each of them to find a new home.

Some shelters around the country have nearly eliminated the overpopulation problem in their communities. Until we achieve that goal in our community, the Rescue Waggin’ vehicle will provide our shelter with an opportunity to help our adoptable homeless dogs and puppies find a loving home, wherever those homes may be.
