2012 REASSESSMENT

The 2012 reassessment process has been finalized.  Notices of change of assessment will be mailed out on or about October 21, 2011.

 

Starting on October 24, 2011, staff will be available to make appointments for an informal hearing with the assessor(s).  Upon completion of reassessments, there are two (2) separate sets of hearings. The first will be with the assessors from Wampler Eanes Appraisal Group, Ltd., the firm that performed the 2012 general reassessment. The second will be with The Board of Equalization.  The other option after the hearings will be an appeal to the Circuit Court.  The schedule for these hearings is listed below.  Property records can be viewed at www.vamanet.com beginning October 21, 2011.

 

Appeals can be mailed to the Reassessment Office, P. O. Box 389, Orange, VA  22960, and must include your map number and account number.  Appeals can also be filed via e-mail at the following address:   reassessment@orangecountyva.gov.

 

*Mailed and e-mailed appeals must be postmarked or submitted by November 14, 2011.

*Walk-ins will be accepted, but an appointment is recommended.

 

*The deadline to make an appointment with the Assessor is Thursday, November 10, 2011.

 

The second appeal process would be before the Board of Equalization, the final step would be appeal through the Circuit Court.  The Board of Equalization members will be recommended by the Board of Supervisors and approved by the Orange County Circuit Court Judge.  The hearing dates and times of the Board of Equalization will be advertised in the local newspaper, on the Orange County website: http://orangecountyva.gov, and posted in the Commissioner of the Revenue’s Office.  Appeal forms will be available in the Commissioner of the Revenue’s Office.  The Board of Supervisors will consider the final dates for appeal to and action by the Board of Equalization, following a public hearing on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 7:30 p.m.  The Board will consider February 3, 2012 as the final date of appeal to the Board of Equalization and will consider April 6, 2012 as the final date of action by the Board of Equalization in response to the appeals.  This will be finalized November 16, 2011.

 

The hearings listed above are the only avenues of appeal other than applying to the Circuit Court.  Upon completion of the Board of Assessors and Board of Equalization hearings, the Commissioner of the Revenue can correct factual errors.
