Youth Programs
Orange County Parks & Recreation is currently taking registrations for many of our programs.  Information on particular programs can be found below.  To learn about registering for a program, please visit our Registration Page.  Orange County Parks & Recreation reserves the right to cancel any program due to lack of interest, register early to ensure the viability of a program you are interested in.

Unless otherwise noted, all programs REQUIRE pre-registration and payment in advance of the program start date.  In general, a soft deadline for registration is set at one week before the program begins, we may be able to register your child for a program after this date, but it is HIGHLY recommended that you complete registration beforehand.

Spring Programs
Michael's Mile Kids' Fun Run: Grades K-5, $15
The Michael's Mile is a fun run to benefit two groups which will be held on April 27, 2014.  The first beneficiary is the Michael's Gift scholarship program.  This program helps fund enrichment activities for Orange County youth.  The second is the Orange County Parks & Recreation Foundation.  This run will be a half-mile for Kindergarten and 1st Grade, and a full mile for Grades 2-5.  For a complete schedule, view the Michael's Mile Registration Form.  The fun run will be held on the field behind Locust Grove Primary School.  All registrations received by April 18, 2014 will receive a commemorative t-shirt.  Registrations received following April 18 cannot be guaranteed a t-shirt, so register soon!

Hornet Basketball Camp: Grades K-5, $60
Brought to you in partnership with Orange County High School Varsity Athletics, Orange County Parks & Recreation offers a BRAND NEW Basketball program taught by Orange County High School Coaches and Athletes! Learn to play the right way with our local basketball stars. This program is 5 weeks long, and will be held on Tuesdays April 29, 2014 to May 27, 2014.  It will be held at the Hornet Sports Center (a.k.a. the Field House).

Hershey Track & Field Meet: Ages 9-14, Free
Join us May 17 for a free track meet sponsored by Hershey! Top performers in each event have the chance to move on to districts, and continued success may lead to a free trip to Hershey, PA to compete in the national meet.  Participants are divided into three age groups, (9-10, 11-12, 13-14). Events include: 50M, 100M, 200M, 400M, 800M, 1600M, 4x100M Relay, Standing Long Jump, and Softball Throw. Available events for participants is determined by age group (i.e. 9-10 years olds cannot participate in the 1600M). Age groups are based upon participant's age as of December 31, 2014.  To participate, please complete a Hershey Track & Field Local Entry Form and turn it in to OCPR.  There is no registration fee.

Virginia Boating Safety Education Classroom Course: Ages 12+, Free
In 2007, the Virginia General Assembly enacted a law to establish a boating safety education compliance requirement. This requirement will be phased in over the next several years; and by 2016, all operators of PWCs (personal watercraft such as jet skis, Sea Doos, and Wave Runners) and operators of motorboats with a motor of 10 horsepower or greater will be required to have a boating safety education course completion card on board when operating a PWC or motorboat. As of July 1, 2011, PWC operators 50 years of age and younger and motorboat operators 20 years of age and younger must show proof that they have completed a boating safety course. On July 1, 2012, PWC operators of any age and motorboat operators 30 years of age and younger must show proof that they have completed a boating safety course. This course fulfills this requirement. Summer Programs

Youth Kayak & Water Safety Clinic: Ages 10-14, $80
Brought to you through a partnership with Rapidan River Kayak Company, this day clinic will teach your child some of the basics of kayaking and water safety.  It will be instructed by an American Canoe Association certified instructor.  Topics will include: history of kayaking, types of kayaks, kayak safety, care of kayaks & equipment, kayaking strokes & maneuvers, self & assisted rescues, and more.  Participants will receive actual time on the water in kayaks (all equipment, including lifejackets, will be provided).  All participants should remember to bring sunscreen, a hat, cap, or sunglasses, water shoes or old sneakers (absolutely no flip-flops or sandals), lunch, and a water bottle.  Space in this clinic is VERY limited and pre-registration is REQUIRED.  Please register as soon as possible to ensure a spot.  This clinic will take place on Saturday, July 12, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., the cost will be $80 per participant.

Tennis Camps: Ages 11-15, $150
Get ready to have fun, get some great exercise, and learn the game of tennis!  Participants should dress and be prepared to move around. Please bring non-marking shoes, a filled water bottle, and sunscreen and/or a hat if desired.  All Tennis camps will take place at the Orange County High School Tennis Courts, near the Hornet Sports Center (Field House).  The Youth program will be a camp which will take place from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., July 14, 2014 - July 18, 2014.  The cost of this camp is $150, which is for 15 total hours of instruction.  Space is limited.


Challenger Sports British Soccer Camp: Ages 3-15, Price Varies by Camp
Over the past 20 years Challenger's vast army of British coaches have helped hundreds of thousands of boys and girls learn, improve, master and fall in love with the sport of "soccer.” The British Soccer Camp program will contain Challenger’s own brand of innovative practices; coached games; camp world cup; cultural education; character building; and FUN! Highlights include: British Coaching Staff, Individual Foot Skills, Fakes, Moves and Turns, Freestyle Soccer, Technical & Tactical Instruction, Small Sided Games, Daily World Cup Style Tournament, Fantastic Cultural Experience!  This program begins July 7, 2014 and offers several camp options for different age groups.  Online registration available for this program through the title link.

Challenger Sports TetraBrazil Soccer Camp: Ages 6-15, $159
TetraBrazil Soccer Camps offer American players the opportunity to experience first-hand the kind of soccer training that has made Brazil the most successful soccer nation in the world. Each member of the TetraBrazil coaching staff brings an authentic taste of the flair, passion, and creativity of Brazilian soccer to our camps. Highlights include: Brazilian Warm Ups, Fast Footwork, Individual Skills, Combination Plays, Brazilian Moves, 1 v 1, Attacking, Speed Training, Crossing & Shooting!  This program begins August 4, 2014. Online registration available for this program through the title link. 

Ongoing Programs


Karate
: Ages 3+, $60/month
Brought to you a partnership with Ron Craddock Karate Academy, your child will study martial arts for the betterment of their health, discipline, work ethic, and overall happiness. The Ron Craddock Karate Academy has years of experience working with children, and their instructors are highly qualified and respected among other martial artists. The Gordon Barbour Elementary School program is ongoing, and held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The beginners class is held from 6:00 p.m. until 6:45 p.m., the advanced class is held from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. At GBES, the Karate program has a $60 per month fee, which is paid every month for as long as the child is participating.
