Working Hours
The Emergency Communications Center is a 24-hour, 365-day per year operation.  Communications Officers are assigned to permanent twelve hour shifts, days or nights. These shifts  include weekends and holidays.  Changes in scheduling may occur from time to time to meet staffing requirements in the Communications Center.  Communication Officers are “essential” employees and are expected to respond to work during emergencies and disasters when other County employees are advised to stay at home.


Schedule
Orange County Communication Officers work rotating 12 hour shifts. They work a 36/48 hour work week. Having every other weekend off. 

Here is an example of our schedule:

Day shift employees work from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Night shift employees work from 6:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.
