Adult Karate
We are excited to bring a new, adult karate class to Orange County Parks and Recreation to complement our existing children’s karate class.  This class is a traditional Okinawan martial arts class with an emphasis on personal defense training. Training includes grappling, weapons, and basic traditional Chinese medical theory. It will train students to utilize the body as an integrated unit to provide a reliable defense system for both large and small individuals. The Aldridge karate institute system has been in operation for over 30 years in the area. This class will be held on Wednesdays (beginning Oct. 3, 2018) in the OES gym from 6:30-8:30pm.  The fee for this class will be $45, due each month that participation continues.

Autumn Adult Painting Class
Pick a fall-themed picture (choices of Pumpkin or Landscape), and we’ll provide a pre-sketched canvas for you to paint and take home! This one-day, evening program will be held on 10/18/18 from 5:30-7:30pm at the Town of Orange Community Room located at 235 Warren Street, Orange, VA 22960.  Space is limited, and the registration fee is $30.  You must pre-register and pick your picture in advance. The deadline to register is 9/21/18, but spots may fill quicker.  Registrations received after the deadline will be charged a $5 late fee.  This program is open to adults only.

Williamsburg Holiday Shopping Bus Trip
Orange County Parks & Recreation is offering a pilot program to bring bus trip activities back to Orange County.  This trip was planned using feedback received from our bus trip survey.  If successful, additional bus trips may be planned in the upcoming season.  This trip will be a holiday shopping trip to Williamsburg, VA on Thursday, November 15, 2018.  There will be two stops: the Williamsburg Outlets and the Williamsburg Pottery.  Get your presents and let us do the driving! The trip will leave Booster Park at 8am and return around 6pm.  The fee will be $30 per person.  A $5 cancellation fee will apply for canceled registrations.  No refunds will be given within 2 weeks of the trip.  We will be taking a charter bus with a restroom on board.  Space is limited, so register asap to ensure a spot!

Free Financial Well-Being Seminars
Join us for two evenings of seminars (Nov. 1 & 8) to help you improve your financial well-being. Seminars are being graciously hosted at Orange Baptist Church. Partner’s 1st Federal Credit Union will provide knowledgeable instructors, and each evening will offer a FREE dinner and FREE childcare from licensed providers courtesy of the Orange County Office on Youth.  Each evening will have two seminar topics, and will run from approximately 5:30-8pm.  Registration for each seminar evening is separate.  Pre-registration is required in order to guarantee childcare and dinner.  Additionally, pre-registrants will receive a FREE goody bag from the organizers.

Basic Hunter Education Course (instructed by VDGIF) - Registration Online at VDGIF's Website, Begins Oct. 1, 2018
The Basic Hunter Education Course covers material on hunting safety, principles of conservation and sportsmanship. Students are required to complete the self-study prior to class and will have to turn in the chapter review exercises from the self-study to the instructor at the beginning of class and they may be turned away if the chapter review exercises are not completed. For more information about the self-study and to obtain the study material, click this link.  There is no charge for these classes, which are required for 12- to 15-year-old license buyers, as well as for anyone purchasing a hunting license for the first time.  Our class is scheduled for October 14, 2018.  Registration will be online only through the Virginia Department of Game & Inland Fisheries' website, and will not open until October 1, 2018.  Registration typically fills quickly, so plan ahead to register early.

Concealed Carry Training Class
Concealed weapons are weapons which are kept hidden on one's person, or under one's control not accessible to view. The Sheriff’s Office understands that there are certain requirements that may be difficult for the average citizen to find training or classes that are inexpensive. For this reason, the Sheriff’s Office and Orange County Parks and Recreation have partnered together to offer a concealed carry class at a minimum cost to Orange County Citizens and to those who work in Orange County. The training consists of education in the classroom to include safety, laws, shooting fundamentals, storage, maintenance, and legal considerations. Students will also have to show safe weapon handling on the range. Instructors are DCJS Certified Firearms Instructors. For more information about Concealed Carry, please visit the Sheriff's Office page. Class space is limited. All participants must register at least 2 weeks prior to the class date, no exceptions. This class is limited to Orange County residents and those who work in Orange County. Please Note: Completion of training course DOES NOT grant concealed carry permit. Participant must still apply for the permit through clerk of the circuit court of the county or city in which he or she resides. Completion of this class fulfills the handgun competence requirement for the application. A background check will be required for participation. Registration documents are available in the OCPR office or for printout below. It is recommended that interested applicants complete the waiver at the OCPR office because the waiver must be notarized and we have several notaries in the office. As stated above, all documents must be turned in in advance.
