Victim & Witness Services

About the Victim Witness Program

The Victim Witness Program was established in the Sheriff's Office during fiscal year 1997 with a grant from the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS).

The Victim Witness advocate works to:

  • Reduce the confusion, fear, and anxiety that crime victims and witnesses have regarding the criminal justice process by informing them of their rights and responsibilities as provided for in Crime Victim and Witness Rights Act
  • Assist them to access the services that are available both locally and in neighboring jurisdictions
  • Provide education and assistance in navigating the legal system
