Go Girls & Guys Community Wellness Program - Zoom Based (REGISTRATION CLOSED)

Orange County Parks & Recreation (with the support of the Orange Healthy Community Action Team) is again partnering with UVA Children's Hospital to offer the Go Girls & Guys dance-based fitness and wellness program to our community. This 6 week program offers 30 minutes of dance fitness along with 15 minutes of wellness discussion weekly during each class. Class will be held on Wednesdays, Feb. 24 - Mar. 31, 2021. The program will be completely free to the participant thanks to a grant from Kohl's Cares. However, this time the program will be Zoom based to accommodate COVID-19 concerns. Despite being virtual and free, the program is limited to the first 10 households to sign up so that all participants can get the most out of the program. Pre-registration is REQUIRED. Wellness topics will include: Why Exercise is Important, How to Make Exercise a Healthy Habit, My Plate: Guide to Healthy Eating, Portion Control: Eating the Right Size for You, Healthy Breakfast & Snacks, and Healthy Choices When Eating Out. Since registration is free and the class is virtual, we are offering online registration at www.orangecountyva.gov/gogirlsandguys (Registration Closed).

Walk with a Hawk in partnership with Earthquest Inc - View Flyer

Our friends at Earthquest Inc. bring one of their amazing birds of prey to take a walk (or rather flight) with you. In this program, participants take a walk at Booster Park while an Earthquest educator teaches about hawks and what makes them so special. During the walk, Earthquest’s flighted, non-releasable Harris’s Hawk will follow along. This program is open to all ages. We recommend families participate together to facilitate better discussion and understanding of these amazing animals. With that in mind, participants 8 and younger are free if participating with a paid adult. This class will be held on Thursday, February 25, from 4-5pm. Space will be limited in this program, so early registration is recommended. The deadline to register is one week prior to the class date.
