Overview
The Zoning Administrator is empowered by the Code of Virginia to make official interpretations of Zoning Ordinance requirements. These range from declaring and ordering abatement of a zoning violation, establishing vested rights to a particular use of a property, confirming the rights associated with a nonconforming use or structure, as well as determining how an ordinance provision is interpreted when the provision is unclear.
Occasionally, a property owner will need to request an official zoning determination regarding a use or structure on a property. These requests should be made in writing to the Zoning Administrator and must be specific in the type and nature of the determination sought.
