ORANGE COUNTY, Va. – Last week, Orange County received a $25,000 grant award from the Governor’s Agriculture and Forestry Industry Development (AFID) Fund Infrastructure Grant Program to assist Piedmont Processing, LLC. with a freezer expansion.
The Governor’s AFID Fund Infrastructure Grant Program supports strategic investments into missing infrastructure that is impeding small-scale farmers and food producers from growing their operations. This 2:1 matching grant will allow Piedmont Processing, LLC. to increase its cooler space by 40%.
“Orange County is pleased to be able to support its agricultural community. This grant not only supports Piedmont Processing’s operation but also the 75 to 100 local producers that rely on the facility to process their meat locally.” noted Orange County Administrator, Theodore L. Voorhees.
The Orange County Office of Economic Development worked to successfully secure the competitively awarded grant. A total of 11 projects across the Commonwealth were awarded funding.
